23. DEAD 09/29/2002 - Clip

When a mortician is found murdered in ritualistic fashion, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) first suspect cultists until they investigate a suspicious crematorium -- and discover a graveyard of decomposing bodies in a nearby field that were never incinerated. More clues, including a passage in the Bible book of Exodus and DNA evidence, point to the business owner's (guest star Jim Gaffigan) odd association with an efficient mob hitman (guest star Jay O. Sanders).

24. BRIGHT BOY 10/06/2002

The murder of a child services worker and a deputy mayor first has Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) tracking a physically abusive man until they discover the female victim's special interest in a child prodigy (as Robbie, Liam Aiken) whose ambitious father (as David, Tim Guinee ) has pushed his son into increasingly difficult and lucrative academic competition. As Goren probes deeper into the lad's vulnerable psyche, he believes that the social worker was going to veto the baby Einstein's admission into a prestigious, accelerated school.

25. ANTI-THESIS 10/13/2002 - Clip

After a university president is found bludgeoned to death, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) do their homework on a variety of likely suspects - including a promising African-American candidate (guest star Reg E. Cathy) for a department chairmanship - but their attention is focused on an underachieving grad student (guest star Daniel London) and a self-assured professor (guest star Olivia d'Abo) whose murky background intrigues Goren. As the campus probe continues, the police investigators suspect that at least two of the possible culprits might be romantically entangled which results in a second murder.

26. BEST DEFENSE 10/20/2002

Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) immediately suspect the attorney/wife (guest star Susan Floyd) of a prominent assistant district attorney (guest star David Marshall Grant) when he confronts and kills a hitman hired to kill him in his home after a series of death threats. But while the cops of the Major Case squad can track her to a convict whose case was being prosecuted by the A.D.A. -- and rumors of her romantic affairs abound -- cracks soon appear in the seemingly airtight case against her.

27. CHINOISERIE 10/27/2002

When a Chinese immigrant (guest star Karen Tsen Lee) is shot dead from behind in public, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) surmise that the shooter was someone she recognized from the Tiananmen Square atrocity - but their investigation also leads them to a major art antiquities smuggling ring. The detectives soon learn that the key to the case might lie in who is receiving the stolen booty, even if their prime suspect doesn't fit the typical criminal profile.

28. MALIGNANT 11/03/2002

The murders of two deliverymen lead Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) to a pharmaceutical supplier (guest star Stephen Toblolowsky) who's been tampering with the life-saving, cancer-fighting drugs needed by hundreds of patients - many of whom are dead despite positive survival prognoses from their doctors. However, their probe of the scandal gets sticky when the exhumations of possible victims reveals evidence of an assisted suicide by a elderly husband (guest star Richard Bright) who reluctantly acted at his wife's request to end her suffering.

29. TOMORROW 11/10/2002 - Clip

When the son and daughter of a wealthy businessman are found murdered in his apartment, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) suspect the father's second wife (guest star Noelle Beck) -- but discover the key to the homicide may lie with two young nannies (guest stars Tammy Blanchard and Merritt Wever) with ties to the aggrieved family. However, the police probe could prove fruitless unless Goren can find more crucial information on the women's background and relationship.

30. THE PILGRIM 11/17/2002

When the adult daughter of a retired cop turns up missing, Detectives Goran (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) stumble upon a related case with more ominous implications as their search for the victim's boyfriend leads them to a shipment of explosives destined for terrorists who are planning an attack. As the clock ticks down and they work their way through a link of suspects -- including an American schoolteacher -- the detectives team with federal authorities hoping to find all of the homicide bombers.

When the wife of a womanizing member of a prominent Jewish-American family is found beaten to death, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) focus their suspicion on the stripper/girlfriend (guest star Kadee Strickland) of the philandering husband, who not only had motive to arrange a hit, but also possesses a key piece of evidence. However, the investigators cannot connect all of the dots in the case until they find the hired killer (guest star Peter Appel) -- someone with large hands who left an imprint on the victim's neck.

32. CON-TEXT 01/05/2003

When two low-rent father-and-son crime figures are found slain, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) discover some depleted hidden accounts that lead them to another son (guest star Sean Dugan) -- who could have been easily manipulated by a shady self-improvement guru (guest star John Benjamin Hickey) to kill for the money. Even though the detectives arrest their prime suspect, they cannot make a case against the ultimate puppetmaster unless Goren can devise an elaborate ruse and beat him at his own game.

33. BAGGAGE 01/12/2003

After a troubled airline baggage supervisor (guest star Colleen Clinton) is found murdered, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) probe the woman's complaints of sexual harassment on the job -- but their investigation of her chauvinistic male counterparts leads them into a related credit card scam with foreign links.

34. SUITE SORROW 02/02/2003

When the wealthy and matronly owner (guest star Judith Roberts) of a magnificent hotel is found naked and murdered with injections of Botox in her bathtub, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) focus on the victim's unstable adult daughter (guest star Amy Ryan) who resented her mother's meddling in her love life. While the cops' investigation also snares a makeup artist who dabbles in Botox, they find they need one more missing link to make their case -- and subsequently look to the dysfunctional family for more clues. Emmy Award-nominated actor Hal Linden ("Barney Miller") also guest-stars.

35. SEE ME 02/09/2003

When a doctor is slain just outside of the mayor's residence, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) initially suspect one of the victim's mentally afflicted relatives but their investigation also leads to a crooked halfway house whose operators run up huge and unnecessary bills at the expense of the government. However, the murder clues soon shift to point to another possible culprit (guest star Chrisopher Evan Welch) who might have been conducting shameful experiments on the home's tormented patients.

36. PROBABILITY 02/16/2003

Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) poke around an insurance scam ring that passes off scrubbed-up homeless men for phony French executives -- and when the poor men turn up murdered, the suspects collect on lucrative life-insurance policies. However, after the cops recruit an extremely peculiar industry fraud expert (guest star Mark Linn-Baker, "Perfect Strangers") to help them profile the culprits, they are surprised to find one of the ringleaders slain in his apartment.

37. MONSTER 03/02/2003

When a woman is found slain at home, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) immediately focus their investigation on her son (guest star Adam Storke) -- a paroled murderer who lived with her and knew that she suspected his involvement in an earlier, notorious sexual assault. However, new DNA evidence in the rape case reveals that one of the police detectives (guest star Mike Starr) might have forced a confession from the teens who were convicted years before.

38. CUBA LIBRE 03/09/2003

Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) try to assess Milt (guest star Joel Grey), a combative older man whose recent release from prison is followed by the murder of his trophy wife -- as well as his lawyer -- but the wealthy and cunning codger maintains that he was the original target of the assassins. However, Goren plays on the man's paranoia and soon finds a connection to a notorious inmate (guest star Clifton Powell) who might have received a hit list -- which included Milt's son.

39. COLD COMFORT 03/30/2003

COPS FEAR BEING FROZEN OUT OF HIGH-PROFILE MURDER CASE -- After the daughter of an elderly, recently-deceased U.S. Senator is found slashed to death, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) poke around and discover that the woman wanted her father cryogenically frozen -- and that the politically-ambitious surviving son is not really the Senator's biological child. But their case picks up speed when they learn that the lawmaker was cremated -- just after his brain was removed by a Machiavellian kingmaker lurking behind the scenes.

40. LEGION 04/06/2003 - Clip

When an inner-city father and son are found with their throats slit, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames ( Kathryn Erbe) discover that a series of adolescent boys have disappeared from the same intimidating neighborhood. When none of the locals will cooperate with the investigation, the cops suspect that someone is using the boys to operate an expensive bicycle theft ring. Their investigation leads them to a young recording studio owner (guest star Paul Calderon) who brainwashes his young male charges in Roman stoicism to function as expendable little soldiers -- all the better to prove their worthiness.

41. CHERRY RED 04/27/2003 - Clip

Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) try to unravel a deadly mystery after an elderly woman dies in a fire and bequeaths some of her estate to a young woman who is subsequently murdered. Soon their investigation turns to a shady state public administrator (guest star Dennis Christopher, "Breaking Away") who has re-invented the concept of "grave-robbing." Goren discovers the suspect's weakness for expensive collector cars, but to make the case succeed in court, he might also need to exploit his quarry's personal relationships. Paul Dooley ("Breaking Away," "Sixteen Candles") reunites with Christopher as the two guest stars rekindle their former film roles as father and son.

42. BLINK 05/04/2003

When a beautiful college math student who worked as a card-counter at poker clubs is found murdered, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) begin their investigation with a group of computer nerds -- but they later discover an even more profitable computer gambling system with higher stakes and tougher suspects. Even more startling, the cops soon find their own workstations were pilfered by a brazen and disguised ringleader who knows no fear and has bigger plans for horseracing scams.

43. GRAANSHA 05/11/2003

The murder of a female probation officer (guest star Angela Reed) leads Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) to suspect her boyfriend, a college anthropology professor, or his delinquent teenaged son who reported to the victim -- but their attention soon turns to the dead woman's vagabond family of Irish gypsies. The detectives connect a few dots and discover that the clannish family's lifestyle was to keep moving from one petty scam to another, a lifestyle that the probation officer vehemently opposed and intended to change for at least one relative.

44. ZOONOTIC 05/18/2003 - Clip

The murder of a crooked cop puts Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) on the trail of an obsessively clean doctor (guest star Andrew McCarthy, "Mulholland Falls") whose previous girlfriends all seem to be afflicted with a "zoonotic" disease -- or a virus found only in animals. Their probe also points to a preening veterinarian (guest star Todd Stashwick) as well as a looming psychological component that is crucial to putting a bulletproof case together.

45. PERSON OF INTEREST 05/18/2003 - Clip

In a continuation of a previous episode, the season finale finds Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) probing the murder of a former Air Force nurse -- but the discovery of anthrax nearby intensifies the search and pushes Goren into the headlines when he is blamed for a suspicious scientist's suicide. However, the investigation turns even more byzantine when a disgraced Goren discovers a former cunning adversary (guest star Olivia d'Abo, "The Wonder Years") might be involved in those deaths and more.
